The D800 will be the replacement for the D700 which has now been discontinued. It sits alongside Nikons DSLR flagship, the D4. It offers a full frame  format, 36.3 Megapixel, capturing a resolution of 7360 by 4912 pixels. A prime lens is one that has just one focal length only in contrast to say a zoom lens which will cover wider lengths. The glass used in the manufacture of these lens is of a much higher quality than lets say your standard consumer grade lens. Other clear advantages are that prime lens offer higher speed. They are sometimes referred to as "a fast lens" which means the larger the maximum aperture is, ie the f stop, the faster the lens is. Another way of describing it is to say they let much more light in. I hope all of this makes sense. What I thought I would do is give you two example's of the same image so you can make that comparison. One taken with a standard 20mm lens and the other with a prime lens. Both with the same settings, same light and the same conditions. Example one: Standard 20mm Example two: Prime 20mm Now, if you look closely at both of the images you will see that the image taken on the prime lens has a great sharpness and depth to. This blog featured kitchen here is made from european oak and finished with a grey/black polished granite worktops. I think it looks really slick and I know the customer was delighted with it. I grew up with a kodak by my side like most people did. It was the "instant" camera that gave us an image just as quick as we took it. Today, Kodak sadly announced that they have filed for bankruptcy. Its hard to believe that Kodak has a 133 years of history attached to it. Kodak made most of its money by selling film but then the world of digital photography arrived film sales began to decline. Kodak tried to refocus on the digital world but lost its way. More recently, their business model focussed towards the print side of the industry as film sales continued to fall. I have fond memories of the brand.
