There’s a lot to be said about cheap 35mm point and shoot camera’s and here’s an example of that. On one of my recent trips “the four points” , I stopped off at Dunnet Head, the furthest northern point in the UK to shoot some content for the project. Whilst wondering around, I came across two old lead water tanks stuff full old rubbish, shells, rope and plastic’s. However, located in the bottom left corner (see main image) was this Canon Sure Shot A1. So I pulled it out and had a good look at it. It was open, no film in it or battery inside but it looked in good shape bearing in mind it was a fully waterproof camera anyway and the tank it came out of was half full of water as well.
Anyhow, I cleaned it off, took it home and put a battery in it. Turned it on and if fired up, crazy! Now, I didn’t want to waste a roll of something like Ektar or Provia in it just in case it didn’t work, so I dropped a £1 roll of Fujicolour 200 and shot the full roll. A few days later the film came back and I was amazed to see the results. Here’s just a few of those shots.
An additional feature that the Canon has is the ability to shoot panoramic too. Yes, I didn’t frame it well as I just reeled off the frames. To be honest, I didn’t have a lot of faith in the film even coming out so I was a little slap happy shooting. The images are grainy but I’d epect that from a not so fine grain film and a plastic lens.
However, im pleased with what came out bearing in mind if was free ish…..
An additional feature that the Canon has is the ability to shoot panoramic too. You might also note from the main image that there was a second camera in the old lead water tank., a Fuji bridge camera. I did have a look at it but it was knackered and to be honest, I have no interest in it. The Canon turned out to be not a bad little unit afterall
